How netBabel works
1. Pick or import words
Choose a theme pack, or paste a list from ChatGPT or anywhere else.
2. Listen & spell
Hear the word without seeing it, then type it. We ignore capitals and extra spaces, and show exactly what differed.
3. Meaning recall
Read the translation or definition and retrieve the target word. Accents and letters such as ñ, æ, ø and å matter. Context appears after you answer.
4. Say it
Read the word aloud. Your browser transcribes it — we compare the text, which is a helpful check but not a pronunciation score. Self-ratings do not change the schedule for graded reviews.
5. Spaced repetition
Again repeats a word within the session. In graded practice, Hard schedules an earlier review; Good and Easy extend the interval. Review uses Listen & spell and Meaning recall, with Meaning recall for audio-free practice.
6. Honest mastery
For either skill independently: 3 correct unassisted answers across at least 2 days, with a 2-answer correct streak. Hinted successes do not extend that streak. Hinted answers and speaking self-ratings do not earn mastery. Reviews remain due after mastery; this is not a fluency score.
